The scene opens inside of a huge spacious boardroom. The camera is focused on the back of a black chair at the head of the table. The chair spins around to reveal the person sitting in the chair is William Blake Mason. From what we manage to see, he’s wearing a white button up shirt with a red tie. He rests his elbows on the table.
William Mason: “Welcome to...”
Just as he is about to complete his usual ‘welcome to the Blake Mason Experience opening salvo, he sighs.
William Mason: “... screw it. Not in the mood.
He massages his forehead with his right hand.
William Mason: “There is a chance I have gone about all of this the wrong way. Look at my journey from my perspective. I spent a good chunk of my professional career in one organization. There were highs. There were lows. Didn’t live up to all my insane boast. Around March 2021 I considered myself on the verge of complete and total burn out, I had enough. The traveling. The wear and tear on my body. A certain level of cynicism sets in when one profession dominates your entire life. I could have taken over the business my own father built for me. I could use my rainy day fund to start my own promotion. Instead of walking down either of those paths, I decided to step back in the ring. Why? Am I really that much of a glutton for punishment?
He allows a chuckle to escape his lips.
William Mason: “With 2021 about to fade into the ether as of the time of this recording, there is one question I ask myself... Why am I still here? More importantly than that, am I going about this all wrong?”
This boardroom is the same one my Father brought me into. He sat in this same seat. He made me sit down in the corner over there...”
He points to a corner of the boardroom off screen.
William Mason: “... so I could watch the way he conducted business. My father was one of the greatest sharks the business world has ever known. He took no prisoners. He made grown men cry. Quite terrifying. In this room he was in his natural habitat, my father felt the most alive in here. At home he didn’t know how to conduct himself. His reasoning always being the way he attacked his opposition in the boardroom had one sole motivation behind it. To put food on the table so me, my siblings and my mother could sustain a lifestyle that would outlast him after he died.”
“Mission accomplished right? Mason Consolidated still stands. His legacy lives on. Me, my siblings and my mom don’t have to work another day in our lives. Great story? Not quite. I didn’t want to be like my father. I wanted to live my life in a different way, but wasn't successful at first. I was my father. I was a killer. A monster even. Some would say I have changed. I have a wife. A kid that adores me. A legion of friends, some who I have treated like shit in the past. All in the name of human evolution, I am a better person right, I am supposed to be happier, right? I have the balance most people dream of. What more could a guy possibly want?”
How about... winning one goddamn match?!
William smirks.
William Mason: “2021 I was happy to be in Pro Wrestling Excellence. New home. New opponents. New chapter. A chance to share a wrestling company with the bestest friend in the whole wide world. What more can a guy want? I’ll tell you what I don’t want. Being the last one eliminated from a battle royal. Having Kayla Richards get one over on me twice. And getting attacked before a championship match. Wasn’t on my list of must dos for my 2021 comeback.”
“Every goddamn setback I had, no matter how frustrated I felt internally I wore a smile. Why should I complain? I have the life I want. A marriage. A kid. Friends. More money than God. What right do I have to complain? Being on a massive losing streak is not a reason to smile. The more I try to numb my frustrations by reminding myself how great I have it, I should just walk away right now. The one thing I lacked this entire time was a killer instinct. I lacked the passion my father tried to instill in me in this very boardroom.”
“2022. I am NO LONGER happy to be here.”
“I am NOT content with merely existing in Pro Wrestling Excellence.”
“I am NOT coming to work with a smile on my face. I am coming to work to be a winner.”
“I have wasted enough years of my career being the guy who didn’t live up to all his Godly potential.”
“I have been an embarrassment to myself for far too goddamn long.”
He balls up his fist. He slams the desk with his hand.
William Mason: “When you’re a guy built like me, you wonder if you truly have it all. Some would argue if black and white thinking is truly healthy. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, I am not one thousand percent sure. The one thing I do know is I am not going to waste 2022 losing match after match after match, if I am going to push forward I need to do what is necessary to commit to being the winner I know I am capable of being. If certain sacrifices need to be made, so fucking be it. I’m still here. Forteen years deep when 2022 becomes official. I didn’t think I would be wrestling this long. Here I am. Might as well be the best I can be until the day actually comes where I am unable to do what needs to be done.”
“I didn’t become a professional wrestler to be anyone's hero. I became a wrestler to follow my own selfish ambitions. Along the way I felt I needed to become more. Isn’t becoming better always the goal? I stopped being as selfish as I used to be. I softened up. Wanted to be a better person, I guess. Lost my edge along the way. I need to get back in touch with the guy who was a killer. The same guy my Father bred me to be, I don’t want my legacy to be just another guy who just existed.”
“My 2022 resolution is simple, I plan on getting my groove back.”
William smirks.
William Mason: Angel. Breena. Don’t take my lack of talking about either of you as a slight. What you both represent in my eyes are two people who are unfortunate enough to get steamrolled by the Blake Mason Experience. You are going to bow to the will of this Modern Day God. No mercy. No compassion. No good sportsmanship. This is as good as a business translation, I’m coming to collect. You two will be left behind in the dust as I climb up the ladder of PWE to become champion. That simple when you put it into perspective.
So Angel. Brenna. Thanks for coming. And welcome... to the Blake, Mason, Experience.”
With a wink, the scene fades to black.
